Why would anyone not check out their doctor? Are we too trusting these days to believe people are who they say they are? We now find that Dr. Robert Jarvik was found not to have the credentials advertised. The New York Times reported that the ads misrepresented Dr. Jarvik and his credentials. Although he has a medical degree, Dr. Jarvik is not a cardiologist and is not licensed to practice medicine. Under criticism that its ads are misleading, Pfizer said Monday it would cancel a long-running advertising campaign using the artificial heart pioneer Dr. Robert Jarvik as a spokesman for its cholesterol drug Lipitor.

Pfizer is a billion dollar company and has spent more than $258 million on the Lipitor ads and did so without checking Jarviks' credentials. Why would they put themselves at risk? Who knows. But now the product will most likely lose credibility and I would expect the sales to even go down. But that is just my personal opinion on the outcome of this new found information.

Do You Really Know Who You Are Hiring?

Why would any employer hire someone these days without doing a complete background check? I'll tell you why - they are either too cheap to pay for it or they don't want to take 10 minutes out of their day to do it!. Yet, these are the same employers that act suprised when they find out the employee, youth worker, pastor, doctor, etc...stole from them, molested one of their kids, sexually harassed an associate or killed someone. For less than thirty dollars per employee, an employer can protect their time and investment. You can't put a price on peace of mind in these tough economic times. Business is hard enough without having to worry about rogue or bad employees and business partners. I challenge employers to spend a little bit of time and money to not only protect themselves but society as well.
